Buddies are trained volunteers from a variety of backgrounds.
They befriend and support people living with HIV/AIDS on a one to one basis according to individual needs.
Their main aim is to support and enable people to maintain control over their lives.
Buddies are committed to the principles of confidentiality and anti-discrimination.
Any information received by Grampian Buddy Group is kept within the organisation and not disclosed to anyone outside without prior explicit permission.
What do Buddies do?
The Buddy is there to meet your needs and what you want is most importmant.
A Buddy provides support and may:
meet you regularly for a chat
provide help and advocacy in contact with social services and other agencies
accompany you when attending medical appointments
give occasional help in the home
provide information on support groups and services
What Buddies do not do?
Buddies themselves cannot provide all the support that you may need. The following gives examples of what Buddies do not do.
They are:
not experts in every field
not home helps or providers of nursing care
not able to be a party or witness to any illegal activities
